A short excursion to Togo, the poverty stricken republic in west Africa, by a group of MEPs has cost british taxpayers almost £435,000, according to documents seen by The Sunday Times.
Other expensive trips by MEPs have included one to a conference in Uruguay that cost almost £430,000 and meetings in China, South Africa and Chile that cost £140,000 each.
„Delegations could be useful, for example, to control the distribution of development and humanitarian aid, but many are simply preceived by participants as exotic holidays.“ said Martin Ehrehauser.
